One of the most important things for your business digitally is your business website. We’ve got a website launch checklist so that you can start your digital footprint on the right foot. This particular list is mostly centered around WordPress sites but can be adapted for any content management system.
Most dos for your website, our website launch checklist
- Set up your homepage. – For WordPress the default homepage is your latest blog posts. But for your business you want to setup a static homepage to showcase your business.
- Deacitivate and delete unused plugins. Goodbye, ‘Hello Dolly.’ Does anyone actually use this one? Also removing unused plugins helps with website performance.
- Delete auto content. Hey, friends let’s get rid of that automatic ‘Hello World’post.
- Set your timezone.
- Permalinks, permalinks, permalinks. Set those permalinks. Ideally you are going to want them set as yoursite.com/post-title, I fully believe this helps with SEO and makes linking simpler.
- Turn off comments. Unless you need them for an active community. But if they are not needed, you are better off disabling them because they attract spam.
- Create/Test Your Forms. – Before going live with your site, test your contact forms to make sure they are working as expected.
- Activiate SSL Certificate and Enable SSL. – An SSL certificate boosts security and helps build user trust.
- SEO Titles and Meta Descriptions. – Having these on your site are essential for getting your site to rank on search engines. They increase organic search clickthrough rate by catching the attention of searchers.
- Set up Legal Pages. – What is required for legal pages are dependent on your jurisdiction. However, all websites should have a a privacy policy. Lucky for us these days, WordPress has a built in tool. Just visit Settings –> Privacy to get your site fixed up.
- Web anaylytics. – Web analytics will show you how many visits your site gets, and even what content they like. In addition it will tell you where your visitors come from, so it is important to have it installed from day one to start having an understanding about your visitors from the beginning.
